This is a video recording of Sylvia’s retelling of the 1740 literary fairytale “La Belle et la Bête,” better known today as “Beauty and the Beast,” originally written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. This wonderful and well-known fairytale, though technically literary in origin, has its roots in far back animal bridegroom folktales, as well as in the great Mediterranean “Cupid and Psyche.” This version is Sylvia’s own rewriting and reinterpretation of the story, told in the autumn of 2025 by the sea in Cornwall.
