Artemisia Center for the Mythic Arts is Sylvia V. Linsteadt’s workshop space in downtown Point Reyes Station, California, a communal hearth of intimate storytelling events, as well as creative writing and nature-connection classes. Artemisia is devoted particularly to in-person, creative and tactile experiences and offerings, however you will find Sylvia’s online classes under the umbrella of this space as well (see below).

THE ISLAND DAUGHTER & THE GREEN KNIGHT

- a field telling -

June 20th 2026

Point Reyes National Seashore

10:30 am - 4:00 pm

Join Sylvia on summer solstice day, out in the wilds of the Point Reyes Peninsula, for a field-telling of a beautiful old fairytale from the forested islands of Scandinavia called “The Island Daughter the Green Knight.”

This is a story about a woman who longs for a green land she has never seen, and a knight who speaks the language of birds. It is a story about the healing that comes from the deepest forest and the language of wild things, a story about the miraculous ways that true love can find us when we least expect it.

After the telling, Sylvia will guide participants in a series of animal tracking, bird language and nature-connection exercises to allow the story to bring us into deeper relationship with the singing earth.

There will be a picnic lunch break, creative writing exercises that ground what we have witnessed and wondered into our own stories and poems, and plenty of time to wander and carry this story out into the high summer land.

INTO THE MOTHERHOUSE

Stories from When Women Were the Land

Three Saturdays With the Feminine Myths of Old Europe

June 27th, July 11th and July 18th 2026

from 1:30 pm - 4:30pm

In this three-part, in-person series, Sylvia V. Linsteadt will share histories, myths, fairytales and creative practices rooted in the spirit and structure of her beloved online course, When Women Were the Land.

During each session at the Artemisia Center for the Mythic Arts, Sylvia’s sunny studio in downtown Point Reyes Station, Sylvia will tell a fairytale or myth, weaving it back into its root systems in matrilineal Old Europe during the Neolithic and earlier. There will be time to creatively respond to the stories through mythc writing exercises, ceramics, and textile work, and to share together in the spiraling sisterhood of the Motherhouse.

Into the Motherhouse stands alone, and does not require previous participation in the online When Women Were the Land course, although the courses are complementary.

HESTIA - June 27th - stories of sacred flames, ancestral bones in the motherhouse floors, and the ways in which we can tend our own creative hearth fires.

HOLY WATER - July 11th - stories of holy wells and waters, serpent-legged women and the ones who guard the springs.

SPINDLEWHORL - July 18th - stories of thread-magic, women’s epics hidden inside tapestries, and the woven power of pregnancy and birth.
