Stories from When Women Were the Land - an archaeomythology of the feminine in Old Europe
June 27th, July 11th and July 18th 2026
from 1:30 pm - 4:30pm
In this three-part, in-person series, Sylvia V. Linsteadt will share histories, myths, fairytales and creative practices rooted in the spirit and structure of her beloved online course, When Women Were the Land.
During each session at the Artemisia Center for the Mythic Arts, Sylvia’s sunny studio in downtown Point Reyes Station, Sylvia will tell a fairytale or myth, weaving it back into its root systems in matrilineal Old Europe during the Neolithic and earlier. There will be time to creatively respond to the stories through mythic writing exercises, ceramics, and textile work, and to share together in the spiraling sisterhood of the Motherhouse.
Into the Motherhouse stands alone, and does not require previous participation in the online When Women Were the Land course, although the courses are complementary.
HESTIA - June 27th - stories of sacred flames, ancestral bones in the motherhouse floors, and the ways in which we can tend our own creative hearth fires.
HOLY WATER - July 11th - stories of holy wells and waters, serpent-legged women and the ones who guard the springs.
SPINDLEWHORL - July 18th - stories of thread-magic, women’s epics hidden inside tapestries, and the woven power of pregnancy and birth.
